Bill Maute was born and raised in New Jersey. He married a Bermuda girl (Martha) at the age of 21, then moved to Bermuda at 26, where he spent the next eight years raising his two sons, Kirk and Bill Jr.

Next Bill journeyed to Fort Myers, Florida where he started a restoration business that still flourishes under the direction of Bill Jr.

When Bill bought Mountainview Walking Horse Ranch in 1997, there were only pig corrals and raw land. We sure have come a long way from that.

On his arrival to the ranch, he started raising buffalo as a business. At the time he had around 80 head. In 1999, the buffalo industry took a turn for the worse and he decided
to disperse the majority of his herd. Today,  he only owns 18 head which he will be reducing further .

Bill's first horse was a pony in Bermuda that he purchased for the kids. The pony was named Dapples, as he was a dappled gray. He lived with the Maute family for five years.

Bill didn't get his second horse until he arrive in Clark, where he purchased two Quarterhorses, Mack and Morgan. They were
sold a few years down the road to a friend.

Next came Bills true love,  Summere', his very first Tennessee Walker.  After he  purchased Summere',  he contacted some Bermuda friends that lived in Shelbyville, TN.  He was hooked.

From then on, he decided to raise Tennessee Walking Horses. His first idea was to raise palomino walkers.  Bill bred Summere' to Gold Dust Royal Trigger, but never achieved his goal.  Summere' only threw sorrels by this stallion.

Bill's next Tennessee Walking horse was Leslie Jane's Pride, a bay mare he bought from Earl Jones in Powell, Wy.  She became a permanent broodmare and has been producing wonderful foals. Bill did get a palomino stud colt from this mare, but he died.

On August 25, 2002, Bill went to the Wiser Farm Sale in Tennessee, and purchased the 3 year old stallion, Pride's Thrill-Ah-Gee.

"Thriller" is a black and white tobiano Tennessee Walking Horse, who has since become the herd sire at Mountainview Walking Horse Ranch.

Bill now owns fifteen gaited horses.  His new goal is to raise black and white Tennessee Walking Horses with great conformation, a smooth gait, and a wonderful disposition. He is on the right track.
